Tours and field trips at Philipsburg Manor include factual descriptions of slavery in colonial New York and feature historic sites and objects associated with the experience of enslavement. Trained educators in period clothing deliver tours using a third-person script based in extensive scholarship and primary documents. Historic Hudson Valley recognizes that this is sensitive and painful historical content, and as a matter of policy, we do not ask visitors, students, teachers, or our own staff to role-play the part of an enslaved person or an enslaver. Please contact education@hudsonvalley.org if you have additional questions or concerns.
